Follow the
Groaning Bird

You’re going along fine
Shit hits the fan
Things get real, fast.
But drag on, slow
It consumes you
It tests you
It crushes you

You have no choice but to dive in
Take the bastard head-on
Minutes
Days
Months
Years of exhaustion.

Fierce battles, trading blows
Emotions overflowing
After learning about your opponent
You throw one that sticks
You knock it down, but it gets up
It will always get up

It’ll slap the hell out of you and make you forget all that you’ve learned
It’s plan is for you to lose confidence
To defeat yourself from within
Thoughts slip and slither through the folds of your mind

However, each time you make it back,
You set yourself up for victory,
But you’re not blind to the truth
The truth is, you’re not going to win many battles
Accept this
You’ll lose way more than you win

But it’s not about winning the battles
It’s about winning the war
Nothing else matters

The trenches are tough,
But there’s more than the trenches
Step back
Look at it from the general’s perspective
Examine the entire front
Each flank
The lives lost
The lives soon to be lost
The harrowed souls of no man’s land
Ground lost in order to gain more ground
One step forward and two steps back

The trees
leaves of green quickly flashing to red, yellow and orange, before wilting brown
fading fast and falling down
The river
Too low, at times too high, frozen, dammed,

But the birds. The birds.
Follow the birds’ flight path
Across the valley and off into the distance
Never to be seen again
They have moved on
And so should you

Noone can tell you how long, which direction, or at what cost
But the method of getting there is no different
Put your head down and keep going
Recognize what you’ve got
Everything changes
Nothing will stay the same

Come with us if you want to survive.
